Whether you’re returning to exercise after a break, managing a few aches and pains, or simply want to improve your energy and confidence, this class is safe, welcoming, and effective.
If you’re considering signing up, here’s exactly what to expect.
Who Attends Movement Over 60?
This class is designed for real people—not gym fanatics or fitness influencers. Most of our participants are in their 60s or 70s, though we often welcome those in their 50s who are looking to build healthy habits early. Many are completely new to strength training or are returning after time away, often due to work, caregiving, or recovering from injury. It’s common to see individuals managing everyday concerns like stiff joints, decreased balance, or fatigue, who simply want to stay mobile, feel more confident in their bodies, and maintain independence for years to come.
You’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals—friendly, motivated, and realistic about what fitness means at this stage of life. There’s no pressure to perform or compete, and no expectation that you move at anyone else’s pace. What you will find is a supportive environment where progress is measured not by how hard you push, but by how consistently you show up. For many, it’s not just a workout — it’s an opportunity to reconnect with their bodies, regain energy, and build strength in ways that matter day-to-day.
How the Class Is Structured
Each 60-minute class follows a consistent, purposeful format:
🧘♂️ 1. Mobility Warm-Up
We start with foam rolling, gentle joint mobility and dynamic stretching to warm up the body, improve range of motion, and activate key muscles. This helps you move safely and comfortably during the workout.
⚡ 2. Power & Balance
We work on reaction time, coordination, and balance using light, joint-friendly movements. This is especially important for fall prevention and improving everyday stability.
💪 3. Strength Training
Using bands, dumbbells, kettlebells, or your own body weight, we build functional strength to support your joints and help you move with more control. This part is scaled to your level and focuses on real-life movements like standing from a chair, climbing stairs, and lifting groceries.
❤️ 4. Low-Impact Conditioning
We finish with light cardiovascular work to improve heart health, circulation, and stamina. Think of this as cardiovascular health — helping you feel less fatigued throughout the day and increasing your baseline.
What to Bring to Your First Class
You don’t need fancy gym gear. Just bring:
- Comfortable clothes you can move in
- Clean indoor athletic shoes
- A water bottle
- A positive attitude (we’ll handle the rest)
All equipment is provided. You won’t need to bring weights or mats — we’ve got you covered.
What You Won’t Find in This Class
❌ No beating up your joints with repetitive high-impact moves
❌ No bootcamp-style pressure
❌ No complicated choreography
❌ No judgment or comparison
Our focus is on safe progress, not pushing limits. Each class is led by an experienced SVPT coach who understands how to modify and adjust based on your abilities and comfort level.
What Results Can You Expect?
Most people don’t walk out of their first class dripping in sweat—and that’s intentional. But after a few weeks of consistent attendance, usually two to three times per week, the impact starts to show in powerful, everyday ways.
You might notice it when you stand up from a low couch without bracing yourself. Or when you walk a longer distance without needing to rest. Improved mobility and flexibility often come first, followed by greater balance and stability—especially important for reducing the risk of falls. Clients often tell us they feel more confident going up and down stairs, or getting up from the floor, something that used to feel like a challenge.
As strength builds, so does energy. Tasks like grocery shopping, gardening, or even playing with grandchildren feel less tiring. You may also notice a reduction in joint stiffness or discomfort, particularly in the knees, hips, and lower back—areas we target through purposeful movement and progressive strength work.
More than anything, participants describe a renewed sense of control over their bodies and their day-to-day lives. It’s not about lifting heavier weights or chasing personal records—it’s about feeling capable, steady, and ready for whatever life throws at you.
