TRAINING PHiloSOphy:

Roshan believes movement should be a tool for helping people live the lives they want, not something that exists solely for performance or aesthetics. Every person brings a different history, ability, goal, and starting point, so he believes training should be built around the individual rather than forcing everyone into the same program. His approach is grounded in exercise science and focused on building strength, movement quality, confidence, and long-term independence.

It’s a tough choice, but it has to be the squat. I think it’s one of the most fundamental movements we can train, and I love how much you can do with it. Whether someone is learning to squat for the first time, trying to get stronger, or using it to improve something as simple as getting out of a chair, there’s always a way to adapt and progress it. I also enjoy how much the squat teaches you as a coach—you have to understand the individual in front of you rather than trying to make everyone move exactly the same way.

HISTORY

Roshan’s appreciation for movement has been shaped by a lifelong involvement in sport. He began competing in cross-country in high school before discovering rowing, which became a major part of his athletic journey through university. As a current competitive rower, he continues to experience firsthand the challenges and rewards of training, from building fitness and strength to learning the importance of consistency, recovery, and good coaching.

His studies in kinesiology at the University of Alberta gave him the opportunity to explore movement from a much broader perspective. Through working with athletes, para-athletes, individuals who experience disability, and people living with chronic disease, Roshan has seen how exercise can serve very different purposes—from improving athletic performance to building confidence, maintaining independence, managing health, and helping people live healthier lives.

These experiences have shaped his approach to coaching: meeting people where they are and helping them find meaningful ways to move, improve, and stay active throughout their lives.
