Robyn was never the most sporty kid growing up, and always thought that the gym was just a place for athletes to hang out. That changed shortly after high school when she began working out as a way to manage her stress levels and improve her body image, mental well-being, and physical health. Robyn fell in love with lifting weights and hasn’t looked back since. She also enjoys kickboxing, rock climbing, hiking, running, and Olympic Lifting, and loves to try new ways to stay physically active!

Robyn discovered a passion for helping people feel strong and confident in their body and their abilities through teaching a variety of group fitness classes, and loves to work one on one with clients to reach their individual goals, whatever they may be. Through her coursework pursuing her Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Alberta, Robyn was able to further explore her love of exercise while also learning how exercise can be used to manage chronic conditions, rehabilitate injuries, and prepare people for physically demanding occupations.

Robyn believes that movement is medicine and has found that challenging her clients to improve their fitness while achieving their goals is the most rewarding part of her job. She is constantly looking for opportunities to continue her education and works to continually improve to better help her clients reach their full potential.

Trainee Type:

Robyn enjoys working with people of all ages and fitness levels. She hopes to help each client reach their goals and discover their own love of exercise, while encouraging them to continue to invest in themselves and their health in every aspect of their routine. Robyn believes that everyone can be challenged to make improvements in their fitness in ways that are meaningful and transferable to their lives outside of the gym.

Training Philosophy:

Whether your goal is to lose weight, get healthier, or just be more active, Robyn believes that finding a form of exercise that is enjoyable and fits your lifestyle is important when aiming to create sustainable habits. She focusses on educating her clients about proper form to help prepare them for long term success and reduce the potential for injury. Robyn tends to include a lot of functional movements in her clients’ programming to improve mobility, power, strength, and conditioning in a way that will transfer to other areas of their lives. She often reminds her clients that exercise is supposed to help them do more of what they love, not become their entire life.

Favourite Exercise:

Robyn loves squats of all kinds. Squatting is a foundational movement pattern that influences the way a person moves throughout their lifespan. Squats have great versatility when it comes to improving multiple aspects of fitness, such as overall strength, mobility, coordination, and power. There are also endless variations of squats to try! Although Robyn is partial to a heavy barbell squat, she also enjoys unilateral variations including split squats and single leg squats to help improve core strength and joint stabilization.

“Robyn and I have been training together since June 2021. When I first met Robyn, she was incredibly welcoming and really made me feel comfortable coming back to the gym. I came to Robyn with the goal of taking back control over my life. Robyn helped me realize that I’m capable of being more than just “the guy” I was in the past. Thanks to her and the SVPT team, I really learned to appreciate my talents and really…I re-learned what it means to love myself. Robyn encourages me to test my limits and thanks to her I continue to get stronger every single day. During times of stress and/or frustration Robyn is there to help me appreciate my successes and learn from my mistakes (and improve upon them). While on our journey together, Robyn has guided me to achieve unimaginable feats including pushing 500+ pounds on the sled (call me if need the movers haha) and changing into a smaller shirt size only to watch it fit loose on me a couple months later. Robyn and I still train together and I look forward to continuing to show her just how much more I’m capable of. I am living the best version of myself and I really thank Robyn for helping get here 🙂 “

“I’ve been working with Robyn since August 2021. Robyn is a strong and knowledgeable fitness trainer. She has a personal, professional, and flexible approach that meets my training needs. When I started, I had a shoulder issue. We worked to strengthen that area and now I can move my shoulder painlessly. The workout programs she creates are interesting, challenging, diverse, and fun. She pushes me to improve, and the result is I feel more energetic. Going to the gym to work out with Robyn is always a highlight of my day. I highly recommend her.”

“I started training with Robyn in July 2021. My hope was to improve posture, strength and balance.

Robyn did a very thorough assessment and devised a program for me which has nice variety and is changed just often enough to keep me completely motivated, engaged and challenged. At the age of 65 I did not know how much improvement I could reasonably expect, but the results has been truly amazing in all three areas.

I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and Robyn has been very supportive, understanding and helpful with pertinent information. She fine tunes the training when and where needed to accommodate my changing abilities, and I feel secure and confident that with the help of Robyn’s expertise I will be in the best possible shape to meet future challenges. Did I mention that Robyn is fun to be with?”
